The GyroMeter is available in German only. Since the instructions in the program appear in German only, the following information may be useful. The program is self-explanatory, do not be confused by the very few German words that appear. GyroMeter: The tachomenter software for the GyroTwister Version 2.1 What benefit is the GyroMeter? By using the GyroMeter, you can set the GyroTwister rotations! Have you ever asked yourself how fast the inside of the fascinating GyroTwister really turns? Can you reach the 10,000 rotations per minute suggested on the packet? Find out who can get the most out of the GyroTwister! Or set targets for regular training sessions and check the results on your screen. What do the different indicators mean? The GyroMeter has 4 different indicators: rotations, maximum rotations, strength index and maximum strength index: * Rotations The value indicates the current speed of the rotor. In comparison: A car motor's rotation range is between 1000 to 7000 rpms (rotations per minute) * Maximum rotations This is the maximum amount of rotations you have reached since starting the program. Use the reset button next to the maximum indicator to reset the value. * Strength index Unlike the number of rotations, the strength index is not measures in points, but over a time frame of 30 seconds. In order to do this, the program must identify a continuous rotation value for the last 30 seconds. Otherwise the indicator's display will remain blank. The value shown indicates the amount of rotations the GyroTwister really performed in the last 30 seconds. In addition, the program is constantly calculating in the background. * Maximum strength index The maximum strength index achieved since starting the program. The strength indicator can also be re-set as described above. * Enter a highscore When this button appears, you have qualified for the Top 10 list! You can make the Top 10 list by either achieving a high rotation number or a high strength index amount. When you press the button, you are prompted to enter your name. Then your values are entered into the list and a window appears with the highscore lists. One list is for number of rotations and the other is for the strength index. Note: If you achieved a high value through error or by "cheating", be a good sport and press the reset button as described above. Now the high score enter button will disappear and the current maximum value is deleted. Tip: You can view the highscore list even without setting a new record by by using the "Ansicht-Highscore-Listen" menu. The highscore lists are saved and are kept for the next program start. Using the "Reset" menu in the highscore window, you can delete all best scores. What do I need to run the program? All you need is your GyroTwister and a PC (Pentium 200 MHz or higher) with a soundcard and microphone. Hold the GyroTwister close to the microphone during use. WARNING: The Gyrotwister contains a magnetic core and should never be placed near diskettes, hard drives or other magnetic media otherwise irretrievable data loss may occur! -- How does the GyroMeter work? The computer uses the microphone to record the vibration waves emitted from the GyroTwister and searches for the typical noise made by the GyroTwister humming sound. Through the tone of the humming sound, the program can calculate the current number of rotations. Due to technical reasons, only rotations higher than 3500 rpms are displayed. PROBLEM-SOLVING A good microphone signal is required for the program to function properly. If the GyroMeter does not function properly, it is usually due to one of the following reasons: * No microphone signal Check whether your microphone is connected to the soundcard. Lightly knock on the microphone with your hand while the program is running. A blue circle should light up in the "U/min" display. This indicates that the program is receiving a microphone signal. If this does not occur, check the sound settings in Windows; see below: "WINDOWS SETTINGS" * Microphone signal is too weak While the program is running, hold the moving GyroTwister close to the microphone. In this case, too, the blue circle should light up. If it does not, then the microphone signal is too weak to be analyzed. Try to fix the problem by adjusting the sound settings in Windows; see below: "WINDOWS SETTINGS" * Background noise Background noise makes it more difficult for the program to "hear" the right number of rotations needed for analysis. Background noise such as music or talking often lead to a display failure or to false values. Even noises you can hardly hear such as PC cooling fans could be the problem. If any GyroMeter rotations are displayed although the GyroTwister is not near the microphone, then try to fix the problem by slightly reducing the recording loudness level; see below: "WINDOWS SETTINGS" * Low-quality microphone If the blue light is on and there is very low background noise and you still do not receive any display results, then it may be due to the quality of the microphone you are using. In order to properly identify the GyroTwister rotations, very low frequencies must be analyzed. Some inexpensive microphones are not able to record these frequencies correctly. Exchange the microphone for a better quality one in order to make recordings with the GyroMeter. * Interference from other programs Please end all other programs running that use a soundcard or that use a lot of memory, and start the GyroMeter again. * Feedback through the loudspeaker (loud feedback squeal) Turn the loudness adjustment all the way down or use headphones to avoid feedback. "WINDOWS SETTINGS" Click the Windows "Start" button on the bottom left of your screen. Select Programs, Accessories, Multimedia ( or Entertainment Media in Windows 98) and the select the loudness adjustment. In the option menu, select "Properties". Select the "Record" option and make sure that the "Microphone" setting box is activated in the list. Click "OK". A window will appear for recording sound levels. If there is a main sound regulator on the far left-hand side, move the indicator right to the top (maximum value) Also set the microphone sound level to maximum. If there is a control box under the microphone sound level marked "Sound off", then make sure this box is deactivated. If there is a control box under the microphone sound level marked "Select", then make sure this box is activated.
