I was born in Benin, when I was four years old, my family and I moved to Germany. We often returned for holidays, but I never really experienced my other home by myself.

After the intense quarantine period of 2021, I decided to go for the summer. I traveled to Benin for six weeks, alone. I documented my emotional journey with my analog camera.

When I graduate, I'd like to have my work featured on the cover! This was the main idea behind my concept proposal for the AKI graduation book 2023. The book's cover shows all of the graduates' names as well as the page where their work can be found. The book also includes a sticker set featuring each student's work. During the graduation ceremony, each student received an extra sticker set containing memorable quotes and funny pictures taken during their time at AKI.

My friends and I traded clothes, and the outcome was strange. In this project, I try to demonstrate how differently we perceive each other simply by the way we dress. A piece of clothing reveals a lot about who we are and how we want to be perceived by others. It's about making boxes, and maybe ignoring those boxes and looking beneath our costumes.

My mom makes lots of phone calls! Twenty-one years ago, my family and I moved from Benin in West Africa to Germany in Europe. Even though I was just four years old at the time, I remember how tough it was for my mom. Her phone was her only connection to her home country, making her new life in a foreign place a bit easier. With my design, I want to pay homage to everyone whose primary connection to Africa is through a phone. My visual inspiration comes from Dutch Wax-Prints, which hold deep cultural meaning in West Africa and are familiar to many people in the diaspora. The design has three parts: The background displays a pattern of Africa, signifying that the continent is always with us. The second part features phones arranged in a checkerboard pattern over the African background. These phones symbolize connection, I used the classic home telephone my mom always used for my design. The third layer consists of playful, colorful lines connecting the phones, resembling phone calls.

It can take from 3 to 10 hours to fully braid a head depending on the size of the braids. When connected together, these braids can be as long as 30 meters or more. The installation, Talking Fingers, is about the time spent together. We talk about anything and everything during those hours. We are there for each other, we listen, we get closer.
