GWLG/Team is testing — thermal release from the terminals

The copper bars server as heat conductors. The purpose of the test is to see how the cell will increase the temperature when there is a source of heat applied.

This also serves to test the function of the BMS, to detect and react to the terminal overheating.

BMS 123 is used for these tests.

Digital death? or The big brother? or What?

No way to find out why the YT refuses to connect. This may be a result of some DDoS Attack, that the YT servers decide to block some IP segment.

This condition lasted for about 4 hours and it somehow got restored after some time.

Who is the next?  Perhaps you?

BMS Easy – an easy way to monitor your cells

The BMS Easy is a single cell protection board for the low voltage and over voltage monitoring of the LFP cells.

It allows the serial connection of multiple cells to get a closed circuit with monitoring of larger packs.

It also provides the parallel connection signal that can be used to report (i.e. feedback) the status of the pack.

The BMS Easy allows for both manual and for remote resetting.

Check more details about the BMS-Easy and see how it may help you in your installations.

The Backup of the Critical Infrastructure – Guide / eBook

Reliable backup of critical infrastructure. How to keep your home, office or facility up and running during a power outage.

Is critical infrastructure protected in the event of a power outage? It may come as a surprise – but it isn’t. At least it usually isn’t.

Are you operating a critically vital electrical device in your home? You probably are but “don’t know” about it. There’s a reason why they say one doesn’t realize the importance of something until that something is lost. Most of us have a refrigerator and freezer at home – running on electricity of course.

Learn more about the tips and guiding information for the Backup of Critical Infrastructure.

Hi computer! How old are you?  As old as Unix.

Recently, an automated setup using a small Linux board for battery monitoring stopped working. The GWL/Team tried to verify what went wrong. Everything seemed to be working fine and there was not any malfunction of the hardware.

After many hours of investigation, we have found out that the reason for the failure is the new verification procedure for Google services. To continue with the usage of the data on the Google account, the age must be verified. We were wondering how to verify the age of an automated board…

Anyway, for such automated setup, we always set the “birth date” at the beginning of the Unix time:  1/1/1970.

As always, such verifications are making the Freedoms of the Internet world smaller and smaller.

FAQ: What is the Cycle Life Estimation of the Elerix Cells

As given in the datasheet the cycle lifer is specified by the charging and discharging speed, the depth of discharge and the operational temperature.

The typical life span is given at this:

Cycle Life at 80% DOD —- 3000 cycles —- @0.3C/1C, @25°C, >80% SOH

This means that for the charging with 0.3C and discharging with 1C, at the 80% depth of discharge (80% DOD) and the monitored temperature 25°C, the cell will age to 80% of State of Heath (SOH) in 3000 cycles.

The 80% SOH is the typical “end of life value” for the LiFePO4 technology, meaning that the nominal capacity of the cell will drop from the original 100% to 80%.

In this scenario the cycle takes following time:  discharge 80% at 1C  - about 50 minutes, rest time 1 hour, charge at 0.3C – about 3 hours, rest time 1 hour.  Total time per cycle is 5 hours.

With some time-reduction on the rest time, it is possible to perform up to 5 cycles in a day. This means that 3000 cycles correspond to 600 days of continued cycling. This is about 1.6 years.

ESS Cycle Life at 60% DOD —- 6000 cycles —- @0.3C/0.3C, @25°C, >60% SOH

The ESS cycle life is given at 0.3C charging and 0.3 discharging at the 60% depth of discharge (60% DOD) and the monitored temperature 25°C.  This corresponds to a typical usage in energy storage applications (ESS).

In this scenario, two cycles per day are calculated as the typical performance. With this number of cycles, the life span of 6000 cycles corresponds to 3000 days of continued cycling. This is more than 8.2 years of the continued usage.

The above graph show some possible scenarios of the life spans for the typical ELERIX products in various modes of operation.

Please take note that the crucial condition for the long-time operation is the contact temperature of the cells, and the limiting of the current peaks to the maximal continued values.
