Feelin' Groovy

Down In The Grooves is a great show on BBC Radio Leeds dedicated to playing the best tunes from a range of genres from the 1950s to the 1970s. Listen to the show by clicking on the Listen Again icon (right).

Down in the Grooves

Presenter James Addyman has been DJing for eleven years, playing at venues in Leeds, London, Manchester, Edinburgh, Barcelona, Cadiz and Berlin. He's been a keen record collector for over twenty five years and all of the tracks on the show come from his own collection.

Down in the Grooves has featured many studio guests. Those who have  featured on the show include: John Schroeder (60s producer extraordinaire), Preston Ritter (Electric Prunes), Snowboy (DJ/top latin percussionist), Andy Smith (ex Portishead, 'The Document') Jazzman Gerald (Jazzman/Funk45 Records), Alan Hawkshaw (king of the Hammond) and Ady Croasdell (Kent Records).

You can listen to the show on BBC Radio Leeds 92.4FM, Digital DAB and streamed live at bbc.co.uk/leeds while an archived version of each show is available for your perusal for one week, after broadcast.

Big favourites on the show: El Bandido - GEORGIE FAME, Jumping Jack Flash - ANANDA SHANKAR, It's Your Voodoo Working - CHARLES SHEFFIELD, My Man - He's A Loving Man - BETTY LAVETTE, Tender Are The Ashes - HONEYBUS, Iron Leg - MICKEY & THE SOUL GENERATION, Per La Strada Di Roma - PIERO PICCIONI, Work Song - TRADE MARTIN, Just Like You Did Me - Yvonne Vernee, Stop - HOWARD TATE.

DJ James Addyman has been scouring the racks of record shops for more years than he cares to remember, and now he’s put all that effort to some use by providing an outlet for music that’s undeniably popular but receives scant attention from most media.

The show which goes out on Friday night/Saturday morning (1am - 3am) plays the best tracks in rhythm ‘n’ blues, club soul, mod, funk, psychedelia, soundtracks, Northern Soul, music library, dancefloor jazz, Hammond grooves and all points in between.

Every week James plays the best tunes from his vinyl archives (the odd CD creeps in here and there!!). However it's not all vintage as James is willing to give modern bands with a retro feel, a fair go.

So, remember retro is the new modern and tune in to Down In The Grooves for music that transcends the here and now, and rocks your world anytime you like.

Down In The Grooves is broadcast Friday night/Saturday morning, 1am - 3am on BBC Radio Leeds 92.4FM, 774AM, Digital DAB and the internet. The show is streamed LIVE along with the rest of BBC Radio Leeds' output at bbc.co.uk/leeds. Each show is also archived on the listen again platform for a whole week – just click on the BBC Local Radio icon further up this page.
