Because my girlfriend was out of town, we decided to do a little hackathon over the weekend, to create the foundations for our first coffee circle app.
I never did any app development for either ios nor android, so there was always this imaginary wall that held me back to even try to develop anything, being afraid that the learning curve was so big that i’ll never have any simple app running over a weekend.
I’ve looked at plenty of frameworks that help web devs to make the jump to app development without having to learn first how to write native apps.
Having worked with nodeJS and laravel recently i felt really at home looking at Ionic. The example projects give a really good insight how to start building your app and cover a lot of
All in all Ionic made me pretty confident to say that we can have simple app done over a weekend.
I never worked with AngularJS or Cordova before, so getting comfortable with Angular took me most of the time. Also this problem took me a while to figure out.
The Ionic View app is a nice to have, but for better debugging:
ionic run -c -s -l
will be your best friend.
Most problems will arise through the asynchronous nature, so use defers and promises where you can. Another small advice, move the cordova.js include in front of the angular include in your index.html.
Start testing early with the device emulation, because ionic serve (obviously) doesn’t use cordova and i ran into problems with the geolocation because there was no cordova plugin was installed from the beginning. You can check the installed plugins with:
cordova plugin list
Now after two days of coding we have a pretty complete app with 4 views incl. maps integration with geolocation. Which we will present today to the team. We will continue to polish the design, and replace the dummy data work-in some feedback and then by the end of the month submit the app to the app store!
In the next days i will post some more in-depth infos about the development and also some screens from the app.
There are already a bunch of high profile competitors in this market but after trying HipChat and using Skype in the past i was blown away by Slack (http://slack.com).
We started using it for our redesign project bringing together, developers, designers and PMs.
Its powerful with all integrations and hooks but for non dev’s easy and intuitively to use.
Never being afraid anymore if somebody received a file or not and having a powerful search its a tool i probably don’t wanna miss anymore.
Still its just couple of days in use and it still has to proof itself over the next weeks!
For now I can highly recommend it. Its invite only but i got pretty fast let in!
It used to be a pet project of a gaming company of one of the flickr founders and is developed with a lot of love for detail.
Since this blog has been badly abandoned and must of my posts about music please follow http://facebook.com/kritop.de i decided to give finally give this blog more work related content.
I dedicate the better part of my life to computer science, to be specific: Web development. After founding and building shake fit, The Nutrition Shop, dealmob (now Tagesdeals) & Queerlee (now part of mySCOUT!com). I decided to join the team of Coffee Circle as their CTO. Facing there a lot of the same problems i had to solve at my previous ventures, i decided to give some insight and share experience i gained in the process. Hoping i can safe someone out there some of the headaches i had to go through.
My Focus is heavy on e-Commerce and everything that belongs to it: e-Commerce systems (OXID,Magento), Analytics, Software Development Processes, Conversion Optimization, A/B Testing, Staffing, Business Intelligence, ERP-Systems & Tools, Tools, Tools.
This blog used to be about one of my other passions, music. i had this motto written on it:
“Let us be lazy in everything, except in loving and drinking, except in being lazy.”
I thought it would confuse people reading technical articles and reading that on the side, but also i didn’t wanna ditch it completely.
